Why We Need Radical Voices
A Talk and Q&A with alumnus Jen Knox ('17), author of Radicals: Echoes of the First Woman to Run for President
Historical fiction demands that an author find a way of blending history and imagination. In her latest novel, Radicals, Jen Knox explores the story of Ohio-born Victoria C. Woodhull. A nineteenth-century spiritualist, suffragist, stockbroker, and the first woman to run for president, Woodhull seemed impossible to ignore; meanwhile, many have never heard of her. In this short talk and Q&A, Knox will discuss the art of historical fiction, the unique challenge of writing about complex people, and the necessity of sharing stories about "radical" women.
